What Happens During an Above-Ceiling Compliance Survey
A step-by-step look at how an above-ceiling survey is performed in occupied facilities, and what documentation you receive.
An above-ceiling survey is a systematic inspection of every rated barrier in the building, performed tile by tile. In occupied healthcare and commercial space it has to happen without disrupting operations.
Before work begins
- Life safety drawings are reviewed to identify every rated wall, floor, and shaft.
- Access, infection control, and work-hour requirements are agreed with facilities.
- Areas are sequenced so no department loses access to more than one zone at a time.
During the survey
Each barrier is inspected along its full length above the ceiling. Deficiencies are photographed, tagged to a location on the drawing, and classified by the corrective system required. Nothing is left to memory or a general note.
What you receive
- A photo-referenced deficiency log tied to drawing locations.
- A corrective scope with the UL-listed system proposed for each condition.
- A closeout package documenting the corrected condition for the AHJ and your records.
